Biography

Mike Claiborne - Bassist / Jazz Artist

Mike Claiborne’s newly released EP titled 15/16 provides a twenty-minute journey through some of the various sub-genres of jazz. The set of five songs take us on a jazz excursion through fusion, bossa nova, soul-jazz, bebop, and piano trio with all instrumentation provided by Mike himself.

15/16 is the follow-up to The Diary Of… (2012), Mike’s debut as a recording artist. Bass Frontiers Magazine wrote about Mike’s debut stating, “Mike Claiborne is poised to do great things and he’s made a very conspicuous and distinguished start with The Diary Of…”

The next release - the single Strawberry Fields Forever (2013), embellished Mike’s solo bass arrangement of the Beatles classic with a full band treatment.

In addition to composing and recording original music, Mike Claiborne keeps a busy calendar as a freelance bassist in his hometown of Nashville where his versatility as a musician places him in a variety of live performance and recording environments. "Mike's solid pocket, tone, and great reading skills make him a valuable asset to any gig!" -Denny Jiosa (Grammy Winning Engineer, Recording Artist)

The Music City native has also performed with many of country music’s most acclaimed artists with appearances on the Grand Ole Opry and several international tours.

Having received a formal education in Electronic Engineering, Mike has also pursued a secondary music related career in the pro-audio industry and as an entrepreneur.

2017 finds Mike Claiborne continuing to front the Mike Claiborne Band, giving others the best low-end support he has to offer and planning his next release!

"When it's funky and when it's groovin' in a pocket a mile deep, it's probably Mike Claiborne driving the train." – Tom Hemby (Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Vince Gill)
